English Classes have been held with the children since Moses
was a lad, and they are currently enjoying the teachers provided
by a local Cambodian English School. We had been using the
services of expat volunteers over the years, but this did
not prove successful as everyone had different levels of teaching
skills and different methods of using them. This was confusing
for the children, so we decided to go with the teachers we
could find locally. It was a good idea and everyone is happy!
The Australian Centre for Education (ACE), the best English
school in Cambodia, has kindly given 20 of our children between
the ages of 10-13 scholarships. As long as they pass they
can continue through to the end of the course which will take
some years. Thank you ACE!
Some sponsors are able to contribute the US$600 a year for
four terms for a child. While this is not expected from everyone,
sometimes it has been possible for this to happen for some
lucky children. These lessons which eventuate in making the
children speak good English, go a long way to finding them
better paying jobs when they are ready to leave.
The Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh has been generous in
recent years and has again given 15 of our children sponsorships
in the Young Learners Program. Thanks to our friends at the
Embassy.
