Sunrise children hard at work.

A Computer School was opened in 1999 and is a huge success. You should see how these children soak up whatever is available to learn. Our youngest are learning the paintbrush program to get them used to the computers for their real studies. We have classes 5 days a week and the children are never late! Leangkry, the teacher is much loved and respected. We have crashed one or two computers though, with the children experimenting how many games they could load on machines that could not accommodate them... We teach Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint and PhotoShop and the older children do Computer Repair, Maintenance and Networking, Graphic Arts and AutoCad Courses, to prepare them for the kind of jobs they will seek when they leave.

All this means that we are able to get the children really good jobs in the computer field, earning them much higher salaries than would normally be the case if they didn’t have such good skills.

Our computer teacher, Leangkry earns US$150 a month – it would be wonderful if we could find an annual sponsor for his salary – a total of US$1800. Any kind takers?

Our first lot of donated computers came from Chase Manhattan Bank (now JP Morgan Bank), then from Cathay Pacific Airlines, followed by the Hong Kong International School and our next kind supporters who will send updated computers in the near future will be from ING Insurance in Hong Kong. Thanks to all!

With a crowd of keen students, many of the computers are worn into the ground. Sunrise is always on the look out for people willing to donate late model computers.
Sunrise children receive expert training from a local computer teacher.
