Siem Reap

This orphanage, located in Siem Reap, was recently placed under the control of the Sunrise Children's Village.

The Sunrise Angkor orphanage is located in Siem Reap on the Tonle Sap lake and north of the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh.

Sunrise Siem Reap occupies a collection of old but character filled buildings, dating back to the days when the French were in Cambodia. Recent Sunrise renovations and improvements include a large grassed area and garden with trees and swing chairs for children to relax. We also have a new play area including swings, and a volley ball court.
Over 60 children live in Sunrise 2; all have a carer, or ‘house parent’, who provides care for a small group of children. Like Sunrise 1, our vision is to create a close family like environment, where each child has a mother or father.

Regular centre activities for children include traditional Khmer dance and music, a modern computer teaching school, arts and crafts activities, singing lessons, and developmental games for all.

Recently Sunrise Siem Reap has been developing its counselling and career support program, where children can share their feelings in a trusting and supportive environment, and older children are given guidance and support for when they leave ‘home’.
