New Hope for Cambodian Children

The orphans in Cambodia, born with HIV, were once the children no one wanted. Now, NHCC is providing love and care for these children.

In the year 2000 not one orphanage would accept an HIV positive child in Cambodia. The children were simply discarded into the streets by the hospitals and left to die. Two wonderful people, John and Kathy Tucker, decided to do something to help these children.

They established a home-care project in 2001 for orphaned children living with relations and eight group homes for children whose extended families were not in a position to care for them. By early 2006 they were caring for 288 children. The anti-retroviral medicine costs USD23.00 per month, per child. Accommodation, food, education, personal needs etc are all on top of this expense.

In 2005, former US President Bill Clinton's foundation started providing the life saving ARV medicines for the children of Cambodia. In 2006, Bill Clinton visited the children of NHCC and mentioned the work of NHCC in his book 'Giving'.

In 2006 The Australia Cambodia Foundation Inc. joined forces with NHCC by accepting HIV positive children and offering support for the New Hope children. ACF recently funded the construction of a pre-school building and clinic for New Hope.
